Maria Younan

Maria Younan, Egyptian Lighting Designer, born in 1989, holds a University Degree in architectural design from Helwan University of Cairo and a Master’s Diploma in Architecture Visual Design from Helwan University of Cairo, Right After her degree, she realized that Lighting Design is her passion, and so on her vocation.

Since her graduation till date, she worked in multiple private companies with total experience of over-10 years in interior and exterior architectural lighting design field during which she executed lighting designs for huge and national projects in different areas across Egypt, including the Opera House project in new administrative capital and the Suez Canal stadium project which are currently under processing, Also she participated in design Lighting for mega projects in the Middle East New Dubai Harbor Light House.

We are M.Y. Lighting Design Consultants, we’ve been making architecture Lighting designs in Egypt since 2011, We believe in making Innovative lighting design ideas and solutions born from passion, revealing every project's unique identity. We were driven to start this business due to the market urge to provide supplier-free professional Lighting design solutions, as we believed that there must be a better way to provide lighting ideas without selling products, allowing us to creatively tailor your project lighting scheme fitting your budget, function, style and needs in the best way possible, providing truly unique designs that won't be confined to a specific supplier or line of products. We are looking forward to be the first leading independent professional lighting consultants in Egypt.

We can do it all when it comes to lighting design, we provide Indoor & Outdoor lighting design solutions from daylighting to master planning and everything in between, covering all technical, architectural, decorative, landscape, Façade’, Urban planning and Underwater features.

From Sketch to Life

What is the Design Requirements needed from you?

To ensure the best scheme possible, kindly provide us with the Last updated documents as below:

  • Full architectural Floorplans drawings
  • Detailed Reflected ceiling plans including furniture layout
  • Elevations, Eternal one if the scope is outdoor or Internal if it is indoor
  • Joinery details where relevant
  • DWG Sections, for the heights if outdoor or Artwork locations and dimensions where possible if indoor
  • Confirmation of requirements for lighting designs to meet local building requirements
  • Landscaping plans, hardscape and softscape and water feature sections
  • Any information on AV/HVAC to be used on the project
  • 3D Shots for concept
  • 3D model / illustrations for renderings in any format
What is Lighting design process / work stages I do?

-Project Kick Start Meeting:

The design concept starts with a project kick off meeting involving all relevant design team members with the architects, interior designers and/or client to define the project requirements, design approach and other factors relevant to the lighting design.

-Concept Design:

After the initial meeting, M.Y. Lighting Design will prepare a Lighting Concept Report, with sketches, diagrams and illustrations to convey the lighting design intent and strategies.

-Preliminary Design:

This stage involves the development of the concept defined in the previous stage. It usually consists of preliminary lighting layouts on plans or elevations, preliminary schedules indicating the type of luminaire and lamp, preliminary details of critical areas to confirm the feasibility of the installation and lighting calculations to check compliance with international standards. a cost estimate and load schedule could be added in this stage, depending on the project requirements.

-Developed Design:

During this stage all the existing lighting documents are further refined and developed. Specific installation and provision details are prepared to incorporate them into the main architectural and ID packages, specifications are enhanced to include photometric data and gear information. The budget, load schedules and control schedules are also prepared in this stage. If necessary, a full mock-up package will be developed.

-Construction / Tender Documents:

As the project goes to site, we will produce a final issue of all the signed off project documentation for the team on site to carry out the installation. This requires a final update to the lighting design package based on all the latest project information from other team members to confirm all information is current as this stage sees the finalization of the complete lighting package, consisting of lighting layouts, details, specifications, BOQs, load schedules, control schedules, control diagrams, vendors list and final budget. These are then incorporated into the final design and tender packages.

-Revisions:

Most projects progress organically, at least in part, and revisions may be required to ensure that the lighting design remains relevant to the latest interior design or architectural details.

We will ensure that we coordinate with other project consultants to incorporate any changes that may be required.

-Site Supervision / Commissioning:

Our team performs programmed visits during construction to ensure that the installation of the lighting equipment is performed as planned. RFIs pertaining to the lighting package are also replied to at this stage. Once the installation is completed M.Y Lighting Design assists in the commissioning, aiming and programming of the lighting equipment. A final inspection then takes place and a report is issued to the client for handover.
